| | Ran with 4b at the Capital high track to try to avoid icy sidewalks. It was the first time in a long time that I have been able to get outside and run and it felt good. |
| | Ran and walked approx half each. Running was 6.0 at 1% incline and walking at 3.5 at 6% incline. |
| | Ran 3 miles worth of 0.25 ladders (5-5.5-6-6.5) and walked the rest. Went to Taco Bell after working out, then Arby and I looked up the nutrition information online...depressing! |
| | Ran 3x1 mile increments on 1% grade at 6.0. Walked the rest on 1% grade at 3.0. |
| | Walked on the greenbelt with Arby. It turned out to be a pretty nice January day. |
| |
Started back to PA school this week. I ran at lunch with MW, TA, and SP- they are all quite a bit faster than me and I really struggled to keep up. Eventually I just let them go ahead.
|
| | Ran at lunch with MW in a slight drizzle. It was just nice to get out of the classroom. Our first module is infectious disease and material is being presented at a lightening fast pace. |
| | Ran the longer loop with LC at lunch today and it was beautiful outside!!! Also...HAPPY BIRTHDAY ARBY!! |
| | Ran 3 miles in ladders and walked 2.5. It felt good to get some time away from studying. Our first final (infectious dz) is Tuesday...and it's a brute! |
| | Walked at the Capital high track with LC while studying for the infectious dz final. |
| | Walked with LC at the Capital high track while studying again. The recent weather has been unbelievably spring-like, but slightly on the windy side. Infectious disease final went off without a hitch and now we are on to allergy/immunology... |
| | Walked on the treadmill on 6% grade. I needed a small break from looking at allergy/immunology stuff. Planning to start making some trips on a free pass to Gold's gym next week to try some of their workout classes. |
| | Walked 2 and ran 2 on the treadmill. Tried to do an easier workout to prevent overuse because my joints are feeling tired. |
| | Ran the longer route out and back with MW today at lunch. It was windy...so miserable on some stretches and great on others. |
| | Walked on the track while studying with LC. Allergy/immunology final tomorrow... |
| | Ran the middle loop at lunch. The wind made it markedly more difficult but the weather was still ok. |
| |
Ran the medium loop at lunch to get out of the building. Right ankle is a little tender and left achilles tendon...also a little tender. Need to stretch!
Walked a mile to warm up before the body-something (can't remember the name) class at Gold's. I haven't done anything kickboxing-ish in about four and a half years and it is obvious. I just felt slow and like I had lead in my hands and feet. Maybe I need to get back into it since it's also a good way to release some aggression/frustration.
|
| | Ran the medium loop at lunch time. The weather was a little chilly at first, but felt good after I warmed up. Also, I've decided to enter the Race to Robie Creek-but only as a finisher, and completely non-competitive, and I might want to die in the process of completing it. It's a good distraction from PA school to have a training goal. |
| | Ran the longer loop with MW at lunch today. Our plan is to run 3-4 mile runs during the week at lunch time and work up to longer runs on the weekend on hills. Right knee has been sore from doing squats at the body pump class, so no more of that! |
| | Started to run longer distances today to attempt training for Robie creek...minus the hills since they were muddy. Anyhow, felt ok after today's run, but need to hit the hills. |
| | Walked with LC while studying for ophthamology |
| | Ran after the exam to relieve some stress and get out of the PA building...it was great! |
| | Ran on an incline on the treadmill to start training for Robie. It was ok, but I went pretty slow and only ran for 2 miles. |
| | Ran the med loop at lunch and it felt good to get out. Plan to start working on hills this weekend. |
| | Started working on hills and it was painful. LC and I ran in the foothills, ~2 miles of which was uphill. Robie is 9 miles uphill, so I'm not sure I'll be running it all. Maybe reconsidering entering the race... |
| | Walked with LC on the track while studying for the pulmonology final. |
| | Worked out on the treadmill-tried to focus on doing some incline work. Walked one mile at 0% grade to warm up. Ran 0.25 mile intervals at increasing 2/4/6/8% grade at a speed of 5.0. Walked 0.25 mile at 2%, ran 1 mile 2% speed 5.0, walked 0.75 mile at 2%. Today I entered the race to Robie Creek with some friends, which is super difficult and probably way out of my league. My goal is just to be a finisher- and if I can run the whole way then good for me. More importantly I have a training goal to help me get through most of this spring semester.
|
| | Ran 2 miles and walked one at a slow pace to get some recovery running in. The knees may not be quite prepared for running more than 2-3 days in a row, so I was trying to take it easy. |
| | Ran at lunch today and got startled when a car passed by and a dog in the back seat started barking out the window. I screamed like a little girl... |
| | Walked around with JM while breaking in my new shoes. |
| | Ran in the foothills again with LC. I used the garmin to measure the elevation change over distance for the route we ran today and it seems like we gained 450 ft in about 2 miles, with the most steep portion occurring in the second mile. This should be a good area to train for Robie because I think it will be a similar grade of incline, maybe slightly less since Robie is stretched out over a longer distance. Also got a new pair of Saucony Progrid Guide 3 shoes which are analogous (according to the Idaho running sales lady) to the Mizuno Wave Inspire shoes that I have been wearing. Today was the first run in these shoes and so far so good. |
| | Ran a short loop at lunch. Right calf has been sore since the run in the foothills on Saturday. Hopefully it's nothing. |
| | Ran 2 large loops and a small loop during lunch today. The weather was overcast, but luckily it quit raining long enough for me to get in my longest run so far in training for Robie. |
| | Ran one mile and walked one mile just as an easy follow up to yesterday. I also did some hip strengthening exercises: 80 side leg lifts, 50 forward leg lifts, 20 fire hydrants. |
| | Walked around the Capital high track with LC studying for the CARDIAC FINAL...(it's scary). |
| | Ran after the cardiology final...I should have gone further, but it was windy. Need to get back to running hills... |
| |
Walked/ran during lunch. It was not a good day for running because I just feel exhausted! Thanks cardiology.
|
| | Ran the med loop at lunch to relieve the stress of a not-so-well-conducted case study session.
|
| | Ran around the foothills this morning with LC and KF. The initial portion was a decent climb, but the last half was mostly downhill. For a harder workout we should probably run the same loop in the opposite direction. |
| | Walked with LC on the Capital high track while studying for the renal final. The temp was around 60 degrees and it felt great! |
| | Tonight I did some training for Robie Creek on the treadmill by running 0.25 mile intervals with varying inclines: 2%-5.0/4%-5.0/6%-5.0/8%-4.5/10%-3.5; I did this routine (stepping up and back down) twice followed by a final mile at 4%/6%/4%/2%. I also walked 0.5 mile before and after. Most of the running was pretty slow, 5.0-but I have to go slow if I expect to be able to go any distance at all. Also, the renal final went off without a hitch...except I don't have my grade yet so hopefully without a hitch.
|
| | Ran around the block with AA during a windy spring day! Good recovery to last night. |
| | Ran around the block with MW during lunch. |
| | Tried to run on an incline on the treadmill and only made it 2.5 miles...I was very disappointed, but I had to stop because I couldn't breathe very well. In the afternoon I walked around the track and studied with LC for the Hem-Onc final. |
| | Ran with MW at lunch. The temperatures were nice, but the wind was crappy. |
| | Went for a run in the foothills that had a short, steeper uphill portion (~2 miles) followed by a long and winding downhill section. I felt good during the run, but I wasn't having to do much uphill work. Maybe I'll do the run backward next time in order to get some uphill work in. |
| | I didn't run today but rode on the green belt with Arby. We ended up riding just over 33 miles and my seat is SORE! |
| | Tried to run but my legs and knees were too fatigued from the bike ride. |
| | Walked one mile and ran 3 on the treadmill after taking a puff of albuterol. I definitely felt my lungs open up, but I had a hard time running inside. |
| | Ran on the greenbelt 7.2 miles of the 8.38. The first 3.5 were into the wind which wore me out and I felt sluggish throughout the run. |
| | Ran the first 3 miles of the Robie Creek course with MW to get an idea of how steep the incline will be. Definitely it won't be easy, but I think we can do it. I didn't feel too fatigued at the end (which is good since there are 5 extra miles of uphill!) and I'm more optimistic about the race than I was a few days ago. There is a nice little downhill break at the beginning before the long and treacherous climb... |
| | Walked a mile and ran an easy 2 on the treadmill as a recovery day. |
| | Tried to run on the treadmill tonight and I just didn't have a good day. I'll just try again tomorrow. |
| |
Another bad running day...ran 3 at lunch and then ran after school with LC. Felt tense uneasy and hard to breath both times. Time to mix it up.
|
| | Ran 10 and walked 1 on the track at Capital high. I had a much better day running and could breathe a lot easier than at the beginning of the week. Now hopefully I'll have another good day in 2 weeks when I'm running Robie. |
| |
Ran the short loop at lunch with MW. It was good to get out outside, but it was a little windy and cold for April.
|
| | Ran a larger loop with MW and AA and it was a humbling experience. I struggled to keep up with them while they floated along effortlessly. After Robie I need to start working again on interval training to pick up some speed. |
| | Ran 8.5 miles with MW and then walked another 1.25 miles to Ketchum. |
| | Walked on the greenbelt with Arby after school. It was nice but a little cold. Afterward we went to Mazzah. |
| | Ran on the greenbelt with LC. This was the last run before Robie. Hopefully I will make it to the finish line and not be too sore the next few days afterward. |
| Race: |
Robie Creek (13.1 Miles) 02:43:00 | | This afternoon I "participated" (not ran) in the race to Robie Creek. I say that because the first 8.4 miles are climbing and I walked the stretch up to the summit. Overall I walked probably close to 2 miles. I decided to take it easy so that the race would be enjoyable- hence the high race time. It was a difficult course so I'm okay with my strategy of walking the steep portions and giving myself scheduled breaks during the uphill portion. It was also about 75 degrees and the trail was dry so there was a lot of dust getting kicked up. |
| | Walked around the Capital High track with LC studying for the rheumatology final. It was a gorgeous day with temps in the mid 70s and no wind (i.e. perfect golfing weather). |
| | Bad day today...was rear ended and the explorer is probably totaled. Good thing we weren't in a smaller car. I have whiplash and have somehow blown out my right calf. I think I tore some of the muscle wrenching down on the brake when we got hit. We were pushed into the car in front of us, which makes us the meat of the sandwich. Arby has whiplash too, but is otherwise ok. |
| | Walked around the Capital high track with LC while studying for the ortho final. I have been walking ok for a few days, but there is still a knot and point tenderness in my calf. I don't know what is wrong with it and will probably have to go see an orthopaedist to get it figured out. Hopefully nothing serious, but I don't feel like I'm safe to run just yet. |
| | Today I walked a mile around the school and down to Enterprise to get my rental car. My calf still has point tenderness and an obvious knot even though the bruise is healing. I have also noticed that after walking a ways, I start to get cramping in the bottom of my foot on the proximal fat pad. I made an appt to see an orthopaedist. |
| | I walked 2 miles on the treadmill to see how my calf felt. It didn't feel too bad, but I also wasn't walking very fast or strenuously. I am trying to do as little as possible before seeing the orthopaedist so the issue isn't confounded. |
| | Walked on the track studying psych with LC. It was cold and windy, and I noticed that there was a pulling sensation on the ball of my foot. |
| | Walked one mile and ran half a mile on the treadmill. There was still pain in my lateral calf around the head of the fibula. My calf doesn't feel steady. |
| | Walked on the treadmill on a 2-4% grade incline. There was still pain in the lateral calf. |
| |
Walked on the New Deal track with Rae, Arby, and Trevor after eating BBQ!
|
| | Walked on the greenbelt with Arby. I've been wearing the diclofenac patch on my torn calf muscle, but there's still point tenderness over the injury and some twinges of pain.
|
| | Walked 1 mile between running 2 miles at the park today. My calf feels like it's on the edge of being blown out and there's tingling down the lateral aspect. Also I can see bruising coming back where the muscle was torn after I run. This car accident has undone about 4 years of effort on my part since I'm not a good runner and it took a lot of work to get to where I was just a month ago. |
| | Calf muscle sore and bruised after running on Saturday. Lateral calf feels ok. |
| | Ran 2, walked 1, ran 1 and walked 0.5. Calf muscle felt ok today, but is still bruised and stiff in the morning. We'll see how it feels tomorrow. |
| | Calf is sore and aching today. Probably because it's now 30 years old... |
| | Ran 2, walked 0.6, ran 1.5, walked 0.7. My calf did not feel good. The spot on the back was sore and my lateral malleolus felt unstable. |
| | Walked one and ran one on the treadmill, half on a slight incline. Lateral calf soreness the next day. |
| | Ran an easy 2.8 miles on the greenbelt and walked the rest. |
| | Ran an easy 2 miles and walked the rest back to school. It was a nice day to get out. |
| | Ran 2 miles and walked one again. It started raining on me around mile 1-so good thing I was wearing that rain jacket. This afternoon I went for an MRI to check out what is going on in with my torn calf muscle and fibular neck region. There is still tenderness there that hasn't improved since the car accident. |
| | Alternated walking and running on the treadmill to see how my calf felt after giving it a few days rest. I noticed some aching pain in the lateral calf during the running portion and pain in the lateral and posterior aspects after finishing. I ran 2 miles and walked 3. |
| | Ran 3 and walked 2 on the greenbelt (2,1,1,1). I was going to try to run more, but my calf started hurting more than I've felt it hurt while running. Still didn't hear the results from the MRI, so maybe tomorrow... |
| | Walked at the Capital high track with LC while studying for the GU final. I gave my leg a rest since it is still aching and there is point tenderness with bruising. |
| |
Walked 1 mile to Winco and back during lunch today
Walked 1 mile on the treadmill while doing arm weight exercises
|
| | After giving my leg a weeks rest, I started to run on it again to test it out per Tracy's advice. I only ran 0.5 mile and walked the other 2.5. |
| | Ran 2 and walked the rest on the greenbelt. Lateral calf is aching and progress is slow. |
| | Walked on the greenbelt with Arby and took lots of great pictures! |
| | Walked on the greenbelt with LC while studying for the neuro exam. Posterior calf is still tender and bruised following activity, and lateral calf is achy. |
| | Walked on an incline on the treadmill during the Celtics/Lakers game. It would have been nice if the Celtics would have shown up... |
| | Walked on the greenbelt with Arby. It was a nice cloudy summer evening. |
| | Walked 2 and ran 1. I had hoped to run further, but was struggling with GERD??? |
| | Walked on the greenbelt with Arby. Now I need to start working back up to running. Calf is still tender where the muscle was torn. |
| | Ran 2.5 and walked the rest on the Capital high track. My calf injury is sore and tender again and seems to have hit a plateau in its healing. FRUSTRATING! |
| | Walked on the Capital high track with LC while studying for the derm final. I could feel my calf aching toward the end. It seems like this injury won't heal. |
| | Walked on the greenbelt with Arby. The temperature was perfect and the river was beautiful. |
| | Ran 2.5 and walked the rest with LC. It was pretty hot outside and my knee/calf/endurance is shot. Bummer! Later walked 4 on the greenbelt after it cooled down. |
| | Walked on the track while studying for the peds final with LC. |
| | Walked 3.5 and ran 0.5 in a thunderstorm on the greenbelt with Arby. The sunset was brilliant. |
| | Walked with Arby on the greenbelt. I was hoping to start back up with running, but after the MRI for the bone bruise on the fibular neck revealed that I have a torn medial meniscus...it appears that I'll be having surgery. GREAT! |
| | Walked at the Capital high track with Arby. |
| | Walked 5 and ran 1.5 on the greenbelt with Arby. I wasn't supposed to run per Dr's orders, but it was getting dark and we wanted to get back to see the Boise Hawks' fireworks display. It was a respectable show with what appeared to be a huge fireball in the middle. |
| | Walked at the Capital high track with Arby before heading out to watch the fireworks...Happy Fourth of July! |
| | Walked around the Capital high track with LC while studying for the surgery final. Our last day of the didactic year is in ONE MONTH!!!! |
| | Walked on the greenbelt with Arby. We saw a bird do a dive bomb into a pond right next to a duck, and then later on a branch just fell off a tree for no good reason. |
| | Ran 2 and walked 3.25. Today the surgeon told me that he didn't think my meniscus was necessarily torn and I could postpone surgery until finishing PA school if I want to. Decisions, decisions. |
| | Walked on the Capital high track with Arby. It was HOT! (93, but on a black track) |
| | Walked on the greenbelt with Arby. Followed with 2x10 pushups, 50 side leg lifts and crunches, 10 scissors. I need to build up some strength. |
| | Walked around neighborhoods with Arby. Followed up with 100 crunches, 50 each side leg lifts and forward leg lifts, and 20 pushups. The weather was lower 80's and felt GREAT!!! |
| | Walked 1.5 at school during lunch. Later, walked 3 on a 4%-6% incline on the treadmill. |
| |
Walked on the greenbelt with Arby. It's still 91 degrees at 10:14 pm. HOT!!!Also I saw a river otter hanging out on a rock.
|
| | Walked on the green belt with Arby. Today I dipped my feet in the Boise river and it was pretty cold, but felt good since we were at the end of our walk. |
| | Walked on the greenbelt with Arby. It was only about 90 degrees, so it felt nice. |
| | Walked on the greenbelt with Arby. It was nice weather, not too hot. |
| | Walked with Arby on the greenbelt. The temperature was comfortable and we stopped to skip rocks on one of the little lakes. I could only get 2 skips and only 2 times. | |
| | Walked 4.5 on the greenbelt tonight with Arby. I tried to skip a rock tonight and it went 3 skips. |
| | Walked on the Capital High track with Arby. This is the last walk before knee surgery tomorrow morning... |
| | First walk since knee surgery...and first of many since no more running. My new goal is the St. Luke's Women's fitness celebration at the end of September- 5K. |
| | Rode bikes today with Arby on the greenbelt. We went just over 11 miles. I'll have to wait until tomorrow to see how my knee feels. Hopefully there won't be too much pain, meaning that it is healing up. |
| | Walked around the Capital high track with Arby. What a great day and the weather was nice. |
| | Rode my bike for 20 minutes and did my rehab regimen. After that, walked 2 miles...nice weather! (but too many gnats). |
| | Took a nice walk after clinic this evening. The knee is holding up very well! |
| | Walked around Rupert this afternoon in nice weather. Knee was hurting at the meniscus, but the kneecap felt ok. | |
