Short-Term Running Goals:

Continue to run relatively consistently (3-4 times/wk). Run 5 miles as a comfortable distance.

Run faster (8-9 min/mile) and increase trail running ability. 

Long-Term Running Goals:

Stay in shape to prevent diabetes, high BP, osteoporosis. Run enough to support my mexican food habit!

Ran the medium loop at lunch time. The weather was a little chilly at first, but felt good after I warmed up. Also, I've decided to enter the Race to Robie Creek-but only as a finisher, and completely non-competitive, and I might want to die in the process of completing it. It's a good distraction from PA school to have a training goal.

Ran the longer loop with MW at lunch today. Our plan is to run 3-4 mile runs during the week at lunch time and work up to longer runs on the weekend on hills. Right knee has been sore from doing squats at the body pump class, so no more of that!

Ran on an incline on the treadmill to start training for Robie. It was ok, but I went pretty slow and only ran for 2 miles.

Started working on hills and it was painful. LC and I ran in the foothills, ~2 miles of which was uphill. Robie is 9 miles uphill, so I'm not sure I'll be running it all. Maybe reconsidering entering the race...

Walked with LC on the track while studying for the pulmonology final.

Worked out on the treadmill-tried to focus on doing some incline work. Walked one mile at 0% grade to warm up. Ran 0.25 mile intervals at increasing 2/4/6/8% grade at a speed of 5.0. Walked 0.25 mile at 2%, ran 1 mile 2% speed 5.0, walked 0.75 mile at 2%.

Today I entered the race to Robie Creek with some friends, which is super difficult and probably way out of my league. My goal is just to be a finisher- and if I can run the whole way then good for me. More importantly I have a training goal to help me get through most of this spring semester.

Ran 2 miles and walked one at a slow pace to get some recovery running in. The knees may not be quite prepared for running more than 2-3 days in a row, so I was trying to take it easy.

Ran in the foothills again with LC. I used the garmin to measure the elevation change over distance for the route we ran today and it seems like we gained 450 ft in about 2 miles, with the most steep portion occurring in the second mile. This should be a good area to train for Robie because I think it will be a similar grade of incline, maybe slightly less since Robie is stretched out over a longer distance. Also got a new pair of Saucony Progrid Guide 3 shoes which are analogous (according to the Idaho running sales lady) to the Mizuno Wave Inspire shoes that I have been wearing. Today was the first run in these shoes and so far so good.

Ran 2 large loops and a small loop during lunch today. The weather was overcast, but luckily it quit raining long enough for me to get in my longest run so far in training for Robie.

Ran one mile and walked one mile just as an easy follow up to yesterday. I also did some hip strengthening exercises: 80 side leg lifts, 50 forward leg lifts, 20 fire hydrants.
